If your computer can not play sound at all or has audio problem, you can not enjoy audio entertainment. Moreover, no sound problem reflects that there may be some serious problem on your computer. If your computer is windows XP, windows Vista or windows 7, you can follow the instruction to troubleshoot and fix no sound problem on your PC.
1.Check the Volume Control Settings
First, you need to make sure the sound is not muted and it is not turned down so low you cannot hear it when it plays.
2. Verify the Speakers are not the Problem
If you have some headphones, plug those in and test for sound. If you do not have headphones, plug the speakers into another computer to see if they work. If they do work elsewhere, then go on to the next step.
3. Reinstall and Update Sound Drivers
Sometimes the drivers get corrupted and will need to be deleted and reinstalled. Other times, you will need to update your drivers to get them working again with your new computer settings.
To delete and reinstall the old drivers
Open Device Manager
*Windows XP – Click Start -> Control Panel -> System ->Hardware ->Device Manager -> Sound, Video and Game Controllers
* Windows Vista and Windows 7 – Click Start -> Type in “Device Manager” -> Press Enter
In the Device Manager
Click on the sound device – Press the Delete Key – Click OK- Delete them all EXCEPT the Audio Codec and Legacy Audio Drivers – Restart Your Computer
Use the Driver and Application Recovery CD that came with your computer to reinstall the drivers
